Is there CONFLICT in your church? Sure there is! Passionate, creative, lively ideas and the moving of the Holy Spirit are sure to bring some healthy conflict to any body of believers. It is proof that there is life and hope in the congregation.
But sometimes that healthy conflict develops into power struggles, personal agendas, and old ruts that divide people and inhibit God’s mission for the Church. The spark that provided that warm glow of love and peace can turn into a firestorm of bitterness, anger and fear before the church realizes that the winds shifted. What then? Too many of us take on a “Passover” approach – if there is a controversy, we look the other way and hope it will pass over. Others of us choose a side and take on the battle planning to resolve the issues as if we were CEOs who could actually tell the church members what to do. Pastors and church staff members with conflict management knowledge, skills and resources have a better chance of leading the church body through the conflict rather than becoming the center of the conflict itself. You have an opportunity to inform and strengthen yourself in this area this October!
